Instructors play the most vital role on a course; they establish group and individual goals, set a positive and supportive tone for a course and provide a window to a world that is new to most students. Instructors teach outdoor skills and natural history and model behavior for students and faculty. Most importantly, instructors are concerned for the physical and emotional well-being of students on courses and have the professional outdoor leadership credentials, experience, interpersonal skills and medical certifications that make programs successful and rewarding. Instructors are both teachers and risk managers, providing the best possible trip or program for participants.

Sol Quest instructors are among the most gifted and best-trained teachers in the outdoor education field. All of the staff are outdoor education professionals and have a passion for introducing young people and adults to natural places and new ways of looking at the world. The field staff members possess a blend of natural history instruction expertise, technical outdoor skills (paddling, rock climbing, backcountry travel, etc.), and the all-important interpersonal and group dynamics facilitation talents required to provide the best possible wilderness experience for educational groups.

Sol Quest Institute staff members are selected to support the curricular program components of the Institute. Staff members hold degrees in biology, natural history, environmental science, adventure education, wilderness leadership and other subjects which support their work with youth on Sol Quest courses. The Sol Quest Institute is dedicated to the continuous improvement, training and professional development of its staff.
